RETIREES NOT OUT OF THE WOODS DESPITE BILL SIGNING.

ACTING GOVERNOR VICTOR HOCOG SIGNS INTO LAW THREE PIECES OF LEGISLATION THAT WILL REPROGRAM AND ALLOCATE FUNDS TO PAY FOR THE 25 PERCENT PENSION PAYMENT SHORTFALL.  BUT THIS DOES NOT MEAN RETIREES WILL GET THEIR MONEY JUST YET.  THE ACTING GOVERNOR IS ORDERED TO APPEAR IN COURT FRIDAY MORNING ALONGSIDE THE SPEAKER OF THE HOUSE RAFAEL DEMAPAN, PRESIDENT OF THE SENATE FRANCISCO BORJA.  SETTLEMENT FUND TRUSTEE JOYCE TANG WILL APPEAR TELEPHONICALLY AT THE DISTRICT COURT HEARING BEFORE CHIEF JUDGE FRANCES TYDINGCO–GATEWOOD.  THE HEARING IS SET TO START AT 8:30 A–M.

 

GOVERNOR RALPH TORRES WHILE OFF ISLAND WILL BE MEETING WITH U–S PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA TO DISCUSS COMMONWEALTH ISSUES.

THE ADMINISTRATION TELLS US TORRES WILL BE HAVING A DINNER WITH LEADERS AND PRESIDENT OBAMA AND FIRST LADY MICHELLE OBAMA.  HE WILL THEN HAVE A SIT DOWN WITH THE PRESIDENT TO DISCUSS IMPORTANT ISSUES, INCLUDING U–S IMMIGRATION, THE ANTICIPATED LABOR SHORTAGE BY 2019, ENERGY, THE U–S MILITARY'S BUILD–UP PLANS IN THE ISLANDS AND 9–0–2 TALK POSSIBILITIES.  THIS WILL ALL TAKE PLACE MONDAY, FEBRUARY 22. 

 

PHILIPPINE AIRLINES WILL BE STARTING INAUGURAL FLIGHTS FROM SAIPAN TO THE PHILIPPINES ON JUNE 16, THIS ACCORDING TO THE VICE PRESIDENT RYAN UY.

THE AIRLINE REPRESENTATIVES MET WITH HOUSE SPEAKER RALPH DEMAPAN THURSDAY MORNING.  HE HOPES THE DIRECT FLIGHTS CAN POSITIVELY IMPACT THE COMMONWEALTH ECONOMY.
